MUSTAFA SHERIF IGE DAY

Introduce a Girl to Engineering day at AFRY

The day when companies all over Sweden opened their doors to girls and non-binary 13-19 years to try the engineering and design profession hands-on and meet role models.

This year 2100+ students participated in IGE Day in Sweden. At AFRY, we had the honor to welcome 100+ students in our 5x offices: Stockholm, Göteborg, Gävle, Örnsköldsvik and Umeå.

We created different experience stations for students e.g. Future Cities, with a focus on Urban Planning and Design, Future Computer Science, Future FemTech, Future Food, and Future Teamwork which was about how to work as a team within engineering and design. Also, a session about how it is to fast during Ramadan and work at AFRY. It was for students who fasted.

Experiences were based on how we as engineers and designers contribute to solving challenges e.g. climate change, cyber security, non-human-centric urban design, unhealthy and sustainable food, etc. Daily, students hear about or experience some of these challenges, but maybe they don’t know exactly how they in person can be part of a solution to these challenges.

For me, it’s important to do this kind of event, to inspire more girls to be part of making a future. Also, I connect and explore what my colleagues do at AFRY, learn from them, and create relationships for stronger collaboration between our many talented teams at AFRY.

Working in an inclusive and big organization of diverse people from different backgrounds and expertise is very very very inspiring and rewarding.

Keep up the good work
Keep loving cities
