Alumni Night

MUSTAFA SHERIF URBANISTICA PODCAST AFRY KTH PLACEMAKING SWEDEN

I was invited to speak at Alumni Night for the Sustainable Urban Planning and Design Master’s program at KTH Royal Institute of Technology.
I shared my journey, from being a student who got rejected from over 100 jobs, to building a professional career as an Urbanist, Placemaker, and Studio Manager at AFRY.

🎮 I talked about how being a gamer sparked my fascination with how future cities are planned and designed in games, a passion that eventually became my career.

🌳 As a student, I didn’t limit myself to textbooks. I explored the ecosystem around the university: internships, volunteering, part-time jobs, events, festivals, and most importantly, meeting people.

🤩 I said YESSSSS to everything, and that mindset opened more doors than I ever expected, and still opening.

☃️ To international students in Sweden: Learn Swedish. It may seem optional at first (since most people speak English), but in urban planning and design, policy documents are often in hardcore Swedish.

💡 It was also a pleasure to listen to other fantastic colleagues from the field of urban planning and design, inspiring journeys. Big thanks to the amazing Sustainable Urban Planning and Design Teaching Assistants: Advait Mukane, Nazanin Keshipour, and Frida Caroline Iversen, for organizing such a valuable and inspiring evening.

Keep up the good work.
