COP28

Mustafa sherif AFRY Jonas Gustavsson COP28 DUbai

After many meetings and discussions during COP28 UAE, there is a lot to learn, to reflect on, and to do!

My two main takeaways:

1. City Planners, Urban Designers, and Engineers have a big responsibility in accelerating the transition towards a sustainable society and society. From making plans and policies to the types of material we use to the way we design, engineer, and build cities.

2. Engage ourselves more in climate crisis topics, and update our outdated image about what is happening in the world, about countries and organizations, and their contributions to solving the climate crisis.

A fact-based worldview is what we need to be up-to-date. We need to read, understand, and use data in making cities and tackling the climate crisis. Here are 3x sources to check:

-COP28

Check the declaration status report

-Gapminder (We are happy at AFRY to be part of this. It’s also recognized by Bill Gates)

A fact-based worldview tool

-IPCC

The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), is the United Nations body for assessing the science related to climate change.

I am very proud to be part of a global company AFRY led by a brave leader Jonas Gustavsson, with projects across 100+ countries to accelerate the transition towards a sustainable society.

Every one of us has a role and responsibility in this journey. No country or organization can save this planet alone. We all share this planet, you, me, and all of us! We all need to meet and collaborate.

Keep up the good work

Keep loving cities
